This course deals with recognizing and understanding the behavior of tropical peat soil in comparison to the mineral type of soils. Because of the increasing demand to utilize marginal sites, which can be due to economic, political, or environmental reasons, peat and organic soil have been a part of many present-day civil engineering projects. This is especially true for modern-day urban development. A civil engineer is often required to have general knowledge in this aspect.
